Securus Technologies adapts battlefield technology to combat illegal phones

Securus Technologies is one of the largest prison communications and security companies in the United States. Over the last few years, the company has been working feverishly to perfect and bring to prisons across the country its Wireless Containment System, which is a high-tech solution to the scourge of illegal cell phones currently plaguing the U.S. carceral system.

The Wireless Containment System, like so many other high-tech civilian products, has its origin in war. When the United States deployed troops to Afghanistan and Iraq, they quickly discovered that they were ill-prepared for the realities of urban warfare. The insurgent forces fighting the United States and its allies were able to quickly adapt modern amenities to their cause, weaponizing things like the internet and cellular communications.

In response, the United States developed a system that was able to spoof cell towers. They called this device Stingray. The Stingray system was able to trick all cellular devices within its operational range into connecting to the device as if it were a cell tower. Once the caller connected to the Stingray system, the operator could either block the call or put in through to the network normally, allowing the operator to listen in on the conversation.

Securus Technologies has been able to adapt this technology to the battlefield of U.S. prisons. When dangerous criminal gangs get ahold of contraband cellular phones, they put the safety of entire institutions and the public in jeopardy. With Securus’ Stingray-based Wireless Containment System, it is now possible for prison administrators to almost completely shut down illegal cellular communications.

In fact, one of the problems that Securus has faced so far is that the system is actually too effective. The company has been required to prove to the FCC that the system will not interfere with legitimate cellular traffic outside of the prison grounds where it is installed. While this proved to be a significant stumbling block early in the development of the system, today, the problems with unwanted interference in legitimate cellular traffic networks has largely been resolved.

Early trials of the system took place throughout 2016. It was concluded that prisons where the Wireless Containment System were deployed saw a drop of almost 100 percent in the number of illicit calls that were able to successfully connect to networks outside the prison. This marks a stunning victory in a fight that had previously lasted 20 years and was threatening to seriously undermine the effectiveness and security of the entire U.S. penal system.

So successful has the Wireless Containment System been that Securus is estimating that the system will soon be installed in nearly half of the nation’s prisons and jails. It is increasingly looking like the war against illegal cellphones is on the brink of being won by the good guys.

Illegal Cell Phones Putting Officers at Risk Securus Technologies Working to Find Solutions

You might have heard stories about offices being shot by gang members on the street. But, it has often been seen that criminals locked inside the most secured prisons have also led to the death of many prison officers. Since there is always a chance of illegal things such as drugs and cell phones finding their way into the prison, it is clear that no one is safe. One person making an example out his experience is Robert Johnson. He worked as a corrections officer at a Florida high-security prison and was a model officer who worked in prison for over 15 years. He has always been dedicated towards his work and refused to take bribes from the criminals that eventually led to their arrest. He was part of the SERT team at the prison that conducted various raids inside the prison and prevented things from outside from being smuggled into the prison.

The gang members inside the prison never liked Robert Johnson for his no-nonsense attitude. While a few members used to help these criminals after being threatened or blackmailed, Robert never stoops to their demands. He led many confiscations of drugs and illegal contrabands for the criminal group. It was in 2011 when Robert was part of a massive raid where about $50,000 worth of heroin was confiscated. The drugs were hidden behind the bunk bed, and Robert acted on a tip that he received. The raid led to his praise among his colleagues and supervisors, but the gang members eventually came to know his name. He was attacked at home, and there were proofs that the attack was carried out by the criminals locked inside the prison who planned everything using contraband phones.

With the use of contraband phones inside the prison increasing, it is the prison technology companies like Securus Technologies that are trying to find ways to stop it. Securus Technologies has introduced Wireless Containment System in many prisons that are allowing them to block the use of illegal phones inside the prison. The technology is quite an advanced one and enables the prison officials to check all the calls that are being made from inside the prison. It helps them locate the cell phones in real time and prevent their usage. Robert, who lived the gruesome attack, works with Securus Technologies to help develop the technology further and ensure that none of his fellow officers face the same situation that he did.

Securus Technologies creates super-weapon in fight against illegal cell phones

Over the course of the last 20 years, the gangs operating throughout the nation’s prisons have grown in membership and in power. Names such as the Mexican Mafia, the Aryan Brotherhood and the Black Guerrilla family may not be known to every American, but they strike fear and loathing into the hearts of corrections officers across the nation, who know all too well the immense danger that these organizations pose.

While the prisons gangs themselves can represent a sort of twisted symbiosis between the law of the land and the law of the jungle, their ability to keep order within the nation’s prison system can quickly be offset by their willingness to deliver chaos to society at large.

One of the most serious contributors to prison gangs acquiring dangerous levels of power and capabilities has been the advent of the compact, cheap cell phone. Modern cell phones, such as the notorious Tracfone or the even more nefarious Obama Phone, can be had for cheap or for free, making their acquisition trivial, even in stunningly large numbers.

The problem arises in the arbitrage opportunities that exist between these phones prices, which are dirt-cheap or free on the outside but may fetch upwards of $400 on the inside of prison. With such opportunities for profit, there is simply no stopping the apocalyptic deluge of cheap cell phones that have drowned the nation’s prison system in easy and effective meas of communication for inmates.

The mere presence of these phones themselves creates problems, as inmates are able to use them to circumvent the security features on the prison phone system and can undermine the very reason for incarceration: to cut off dangerous offenders from the outside world.

But once these phones fall into the hand of gang leadership, they can create deadly situations. Over the course of the last decade alone, there have been hundreds of cases of serious witness intimidation, undermining major drug cases and making a joke of the criminal justice system. Many people deemed snitches have been murdered by those who their testimony convicted. Even prison guards themselves have not been immune to the wrath of cell-phone-enabled prison gangs, with dozens of prison guards having been brutally murdered for crossing the wrong shot caller.

Now, Securus Technologies, one of the nation’s leading providers of inmate communication services, is unveiling its Wireless Containment Solution, a suite of hi-tech wizardry that allows for the 100-percent effective blocking of all unauthorized cellular calls taking place within a prison’s grounds.

The system has been tested in the field, and the results have been spectacular. Not only does the system completely shut down illegal calls, it also enables officers to pinpoint the location of all illegal phones, allowing for the confiscation of all smuggled cell phones.

Securus Technologies Highly Successful and Prominent Firm in the Correctional Sphere

Many different services are offered to the inmates these days to make their lives stress free and comfortable inside the prison. One of the services that are essential to achieving this objective is the inmate communication services. It helps the inmates to stay in contact with their loved ones and know what they are up to. Staying in isolation is tough, and it can mess up with the mind in many different ways, but the inmate communication services help in cutting the distress on the detainees.

Securus Technologies is one of the leading firms that provide inmate communication services in the United States, Canada, and the District of Columbia. Securus Technologies provides its services at a meager price and reaches out to over 1.2 million inmates across its network. The company is planning to reach out to a wider network of inmates in the time to come by making inroads into more correctional facilities.

At present, Securus Technologies offers its services to close to 3.000 prisons, a figure that is expected to snowball shortly. It is because the CEO of Securus Technologies, Rick Smith, has mentioned about his plans for expansion in the near future. Securus Technologies provides a broad range of correctional technologies and services, which includes parolee tracking service, governmental information management system, inmate communication services, investigative technology and services, and more. The company has plans to expand its products and services portfolio shortly and ensure that the end users in the correctional sphere are helped with the developing technology developed by the company.

Securus Technologies’ products and services are greatly appreciated by the law enforcement officers as well, who have written to the company expressing their admiration for the work they are doing to advance the correctional sphere. Securus Technologies published a press release where they showcased parts of the letters written by the law enforcement officers expressing their views on how Securus Technologies is contributing to the correctional space.

Call your inmate friend through Securus, beginning with his stated permission; have him give this to continue, and it will actually login the numbers. There’s a number that writes down the number in Gordon’s EpiPen. So, what happens is the copies of the charges for the service they want to actually charge you – $10 extra sometimes – even more, just to add an extra number.

The tablets designed specifically for correctional facilities, like the Sheriff Department, have a phone contract with the company entering the testing phase. Sean Stuarts explains it’s at no extra cost to taxpayers. Inmates pay for phone calls at $2.25 for 15 minutes – all calls recorded and closely monitored by staff. Critics say that technology is a privilege inmates shouldn’t have; Stuarts says it’s proven to be valuable. In the four months where we’ve had these tablets, the communication devices they haven’t had moved them to despair. Even that little bit of freedom encourages positive behavior.

More jails hope to expand the program so that all inmates can buy movies and have access to programs like AA or Anger Management. There are about 1,900 inmates in the jail; Stuarts says that around 270 of them have been convicted of a crime and that the rest are awaiting pending trial dates. Stuarts says the the biggest issue they have is that most of the inmates are wondering when they will get more, which could be in the next six months from the newsroom. Security protocols procedures have always been built to keep electronic communication outside facilities incase inmates want to send a message; unless you have your own portable phone, you cannot download anything on them. It’s all Wi-Fi Internet access anywhere.

Securus Technologies Dominates the Criminal and Civil Justice System Support Industry

Securus Technologies is a leading provider of technology for the criminal and civil justice systems. Securus Technologies specifically provides technology solutions for investigation, public safety, corrections and monitoring/

Securus Technologies announced a challenge to a company considered its main competitor. Securus Technologies challenged Global Tel Link, or GTL, to submit to an independent technology judge. The purpose will be to determine which company possesses the most expansive and best solution set. The challenge is also to determine which company has the most modern high-tech and sophisticated telephone calling solution on the market. In addition, the evaluation will include a consideration of which company has the most capital as well as the most cost effective solutions. The evaluation is also to take into account customer service metrics.

Securus Technologies, through its Chief Executive Officer, Richard A. Smith, maintains that GTL has not been accurate in describing its solutions as being better than those offered by Securus Technologies. The drive for an independent evaluation is to assist Securus Technologies in debunking what it considered to be inaccurate boosting by GTL.

Securus Technologies is based in Dallas, Texas. The company currently serves over serving 3,450 public safety, law enforcement and corrections agencies across the United States. This includes agencies on the federal, state, and local level. The company continues to expand its client list on a consistent basis.

The company provides services to over 1,200,000 inmates throughout North America. This includes services and solutions provided by the company and all of its subsidiaries. GTL does not serve nearly as many inmates or offenders of other statuses as does Securus Technologies at this juncture in time.

At the heart of all of the solutions provided through Securus Technologies is safety and security for the general population. The company is an industry leader in this regard.
